Choose Your Online Degree For A Brighter Career FutureWithout a degree, your career prospect may not be "as bright" as you would like it to be. But, for some reasons you ended up in a vacation job as career starter after your high school. You know you want a degree for a golden future. You also want to keep your job because you need the money to pay for the cost of an online degree. You know there is a lot of benefits studying online. You need a degree, but which degree? Degree in Accounting? Degree in Criminology? Degree in Criminology? Business & MBA Degrees? Social Sciences Degrees? Education & Teaching Degrees? Law Degree (LLB)? Computers & I.T. Degrees? Health & Medicine Degrees? Nursing Degrees? Pharmacy? Or, Engineering Degree?
How to choose your degree?First, understand yourself Is your current salary sufficient to finance your family as well as your study? Find out how you can be sure. Does your employer have any interest or are they supportive of employees doing part-time study? Most large company has what we called “Human Resource Policy” or “Personnel Administration Policy or Procedure” or manual with similar title. This policy spells out what the employer has in mind for employees’ self-development. A supportive employer gives you a good and strong plateform for your career development. Then aim at the direction you want to go. You have a satisfying job at hand ……. So you are satisfied and are interested in what you are doing now. Then identify the highest job ranking that you can potentially attain. For example, you work in a law firm as a legal clerk, and you like the job. Then you are looking at the career of a lawyer, a solicitor or, perhaps an prosecutor or a magistrate and even a judge. You make a decision and make it the goal you are looking at. That would mean a law degree is what you are looking for. Second example: you work as an accounts clerk in an accounting department of a large company, then you are looking at the profession of an accountant, a financial controller, a company secretary, or an administrator. Then, you are looking for an accounting or finance or, a business administration degree. You have no interest in your current job …… Your job is lousy. You don’t like it. You don’t have the interest now and you are sure you will not be interested in it in the future. Then get a career guide, or talk to the education counsel, or talk to student counsel of the university you keep in contact with. You can get books on career guide from most public libraries. Understand the trade of work involved in each of the careers. Understand your personality and check how your personality fit into the career. For example, if you are an introvert, you will not look at Public Relations, Sales jobs or hotel profession unless you are taking it as a challenge to change yourself. Before you are making the decision to change job, I would like to share this with you. There are people who keep their lousy jobs, but pursue their interests outside their work hours and later turn their interests into their career or profession or business opportunity. The Chinese believes this:” be respectful to your profession, and you will be happy with it.” In Summary ……Be rational in your selection of your qualification and degree. Look at what you have now and understand how you feel about it. If you are satisfied with whatever you are doing, go further and make the best out of it. If you are not happy with what you have now, make a change, drastically if you need to. However, make the change as less painful as possible to yourself and to the people you love.
