and earn your internationally recognized qualification. The Malaysian way of life in itself is a learning experience that makes your stay and time spent worthwhile.

Enrol in one of the Private Higher Education Institutions

Through affiliation programs with renowned Universities from UK, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and, or through direct presence of reputable universities from these countries, you can earn your quality accredited degree of international repute from the Private Higher Education Institutions. The Malaysian National Accreditation Board (or in the Malaysian National Language “Lembaga Akreditasi Negara”, LAN for short.) set the standard criteria and stringent requirements that should comply with the Education Act 1996 and the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996.

Why study in Malaysia

Currently there are 36000 international students from 150 countries studying in this multi-ethnic, multi-culture and multi-religion country and this figure is growing; signifying the country's potential development into a center of academic and higher education excellence in the region.

The tuition fees these Private Higher Education Institutions charge are highly affordable. And, the cost of living in this oil & gas producer country is low, as little as US $2,400 per annum. These two criteria offer you a cost-saving opportunity to acquire your academic qualification. Furthermore, you are allowed to work for not more than 20 hours per week during your term break to earn extra pocket money for yourself.

The ethnic diversities of Malaysian provide you the opportunities to learn Bahasa Melayu (the Malay Language), English and Mandarin at the same time. If your education background is in English, you have to study Bahasa Malayu as a mandatory subject of study in the Private Higher Education Institutions. Otherwise, you have to master English language as well to attend lectures and tutorials in English. You can pick up Mandarin in your social activities as it is commonly spoken in this country. Possibly, mingling with your Malaysian friends of Indian origin, you may also pick up some Indian dialects as well. If you wish, you may attend tuition to learn Mandarin for your own benefits. You would be surprised how fast your local Malaysian friends switched their tongues from English to Malay, or to Mandarin, or to Indian, or to a Chinese dialect as they direct their conversations to different listeners simultaneously at a coffee shop. It all seems to be a very natural process.

You may find a lot of interesting things you don’t normally find in your own country. The different cultures and religions co-exist in one place make your stay a fruitful life and learning experience. It is a place you have to adjust or adapt yourself many times over, but yet you are able to remain yourself and are free to practice your own culture and religion within the ambit of the Malaysian laws.

Malaysia, an ideal place for foreigners to make it as their second home under the second home program being promoted by the government, has a hot climate. A sufficient rainfall, however is keeping the forests or jungle green and flowers blossom all year round. You do not need heavy clothing rather, perhaps, just an umbrella to keep from sunlight and rain.

So, you are interested to study in this beautiful country, but you do not know how you would finance your study...

Americans may have the opportunity to study in a Malaysian educational institution through the Fulbright Program Grants for U.S. Citizens. The objective of the grant is not only to enable the recipient to pursue a particular field of study but to also develop leaders who can contribute to promoting better understanding between the U.S. and Malaysia. The grants are provided by MACEE. Their website is: http://www.macee.org.my/02_09_content.htm

Before you enroll with a Private Higher Education Institution, find out whether the institution has the license from the Education Department to conduct courses leading to certificates, diplomas or degrees you are interested. You may check and confirm with the Education Department or LAN.

For immigration purposes, please check with the Malaysian Embassy in your country. Unless you are a national of The People’s Republic of China, you get your visa issued to you upon arrival. For Chinese nationals, you have to apply for the visa, and get your student pass before entering the country. You may find the personnel of your institute very helpful and who would give you personal attention. They shall apply on your behalf your student pass. They will make arrangements to pick you up upon arrival, to arrange your accommodation. They will also provide you with other necessary supports you need until you have settled down. When you are scouting for an institution, do not be shy to ask for help, and any assistance so as to ensure you are comfortable in your first few months of stay.

Most countries require foreign students to arrange some payments for security bonds and Malaysa is no exception. You can find out from this website and identify all the costs and payments, and get more detail about studying in this beautiful country.

Or, get information direct from Immigration Department of Malaysia

In summary

Study and stay in this former British colony in itself is a learning experience that gives you multiple opportunities: learning the languages, understanding the diversity of cultures and religions that co-exist harmoniously in one place such that you have to adjust and adapt many times over. Yet, it is very much cost saving opportunity to earn your academic qualification that is internationally recognized.
